چکیده

We consider uncertainty classes of noise distributions defined by a bound on the divergence with respect to a nominal noise distribution. The noise that maximizes the minimum error probability for binary-input channels is found. The effect of the reduction in uncertainty brought about by knowledge of the signal-to-noise ratio is also studied. The particular class of Gaussian nominal distributions provides an analysis tool for nearGaussian channels. Asymptotic behavior of the least favorable noise distribution and resulting error probability are studied in a variety of scenarios, namely: asymptotically small divergence with and without power constraint; asymptotically large divergence with and without power constraint; and asymptotically large signal-to-noise ratio.

Worst-case power-constrained noise for binary-input channels

The error probability and the capacity of binary-input additive-noise channels are well-known if the noise is Gaussian. A basic problem in communication theory is to find the worst-case performance achevable by any noise dlstnbutlon as a function of the signal-to-noise ratio. Thls paper gives a complete solution to this problem for the two major performance measures: error probability and capac...

Worst case additive noise for binary-input channels and zero-threshold detection under constraints of power and divergence

Additive-noise channels with binary inputs and zerothreshold detection are considered. We study worst case noise under the criterion of maximum error probability with constraints on both power and divergence with respect to a given symmetric nominal noise distribution. Particular attention is focused on the cases of a) Gaussian nominal distributions and b) asymptotic increase in worst case erro...

A complete characterization of minimax and maximin encoder- decoder policies for communication channels with incomplete statistical description

The problem is considered of transmitting a sequence of independent and identically distributed Gaussian random variables over a channel whose statistical description is incomplete. The channel is modeled as one that is conditionally Gaussian, with the unknown part being controlled by a so-called “jammer” who may have access to the input to the encoder and operates under a given power constrain...

Impulsive Noise Elimination Considering the Bit Planes Information of the Image

Impulsive noise is one of the imposed defectives degrades the quality of images. Performance of many image processing applications directly depends on the quality of the input image. Hence, it is necessary to de-noise the degraded images without losing their valuable information such as edges. In this paper we propose a method to remove impulsive noise from color images without damaging the ima...

Performance Analysis and Improvement of LT Codes over AWGN Channels

LT codes, the first universal erasure-correcting codes, have near-optimal performance over binary erasure channels for any erasure probability, but exhibit high bit error rate and error floor over the noisy channels. This paper investigated the performance of LT codes over the additive white Gaussian noise channels. We designed the systematic LT codes through reconstructing the bipartite graph ...
